IATA 2024 Safety Report: Most Common Accidents and Risk Factors Revealed

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has released its 2024 Annual Safety Report, highlighting the most frequent types of accidents throughout the year. According to the report, tail strikes and runway excursions were the most commonly recorded incidents, primarily occurring during takeoff and landing due to pilot errors and operational conditions. In 2024, there were 12 tail strikes and 10 runway excursions.

The report also identified the most common contributing factors to accidents. The leading cause was errors made by pilots during manual flight operations. Other key risk factors included lack of situational awareness, flight path control issues, and non-compliance with standard operating procedures.

IATA has called on airlines to enhance training programs and strengthen safety practices, emphasizing the need for improved pilot education to further enhance flight safety.
