No Mechanical Failure Found in ACT Airlines Crash Investigation

The investigation into the ACT Airlines crash at Hong Kong International Airport on October 20, 2025, which claimed the lives of two people, is ongoing. The Hong Kong Air Accident Investigation Authority (AAIA) stated in its interim update that technical examinations of the aircraft had revealed no mechanical failure linked to the accident.

The Boeing 747 freighter, operated by ACT Airlines on behalf of Emirates SkyCargo, veered off the runway after landing, collided with an airport security patrol vehicle, and plunged into the sea. Two security personnel inside the vehicle lost their lives.

Investigators are focusing on the forward movement of an engine thrust lever during the aircraft’s landing roll. This movement reportedly caused the aircraft to veer left and exit the runway. The AAIA announced that specialized sound spectrum analyses would be conducted to determine whether the thrust lever moved due to a mechanical action or an externally applied force.
