Qatar Airways Ordered to Pay Compensation Over Ticket Refund

The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission in Hyderabad, India, has ordered Qatar Airways and online travel platform EaseMyTrip to pay a total of ₹306,168 after failing to refund tickets for a passenger who was forced to cancel his trip following a cancer diagnosis.
The passenger, who purchased tickets for flights from Hyderabad to Atlanta with his wife in 2024, was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor before the scheduled journey. Unable to travel due to medical treatment, he requested a refund and submitted supporting medical documents. However, the refund was not processed due to a dispute over responsibility between the two companies. The passenger passed away while the legal proceedings were ongoing.
In its ruling dated September 29, 2026, the commission ordered Qatar Airways and EaseMyTrip to refund the ticket amount of ₹186,168 with 12% annual interest, along with ₹100,000 in compensation and ₹20,000 in legal costs. Both companies were directed to comply with the order within 45 days of receiving it.
