UK to Ban Airlines From Charging Extra to Seat Children Next to Adults

The UK government is preparing to ban airlines from charging additional seat selection fees for children under the age of 14 to sit next to their parents or accompanying adults. Under the planned regulations, carriers will be required to allocate seating for passengers under 14 alongside an adult free of charge.

Introduced as part of broader measures to ease the cost of living, the policy aims to curb travel expenses for families. Under current practices, a parent traveling with a child can face up to £104 in additional seat selection fees on a round-trip itinerary.

The forthcoming framework also addresses administrative ticketing fees. Passengers will be permitted to rectify minor typographical and name errors on bookings at no cost, effectively ending airline charges of up to £40 previously levied for simple corrections.
