Boeing Report: Asia-Pacific Will Require 1 Million New Aviation Personnel by 2045
Current market projections released by American planemaker Boeing indicate sustained long-term growth across the Asia-Pacific commercial aviation sector over the next 20 years, creating significant workforce demand.
According to the newly published 2026 Pilot and Technician Outlook alongside the Commercial Services Market Outlook, approximately 1 million new aviation professionals will be needed across Northeast Asia, Oceania, South Asia, Southeast Asia, and China through 2045. Driven by fleet expansions and rising flight traffic, the commercial aviation services market in the region is projected to surpass 1.8 billion dollars in value.
The projected personnel demand over the next two decades is distributed as follows:
- 272,000 pilots
- 302,000 maintenance technicians
- 395,000 cabin crew
Middle-Class Expansion and Tourism Drive Demand
Key drivers behind this regional momentum include rising middle-class travel demand, economic growth, tourism recovery, urbanization, ongoing airport infrastructure investments, and sustained growth in air cargo and e-commerce logistics.
Boeing projects that single-aisle aircraft will represent roughly 78 percent of all regional fleet additions through 2045, serving domestic and regional connectivity. Widebody passenger aircraft and freighters will continue to underpin long-haul operations and global e-commerce volumes.
Emphasis on Training Infrastructure and Supply Chains
The report emphasizes that addressing the need for 1 million personnel requires close coordination among airlines, universities, and accredited training centers. Beyond pilot and cabin crew training programs, investments in maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO), parts distribution, and predictive digital maintenance services will remain critical to operational continuity.
With MRO and component distribution expected to account for over 65 percent of regional services demand, predictive maintenance platforms will play a pivotal role in minimizing aircraft-on-ground (AOG) disruptions amid ongoing global supply chain constraints and parts shortages.
