Ertan Çoğul, a scrap dealer based in Bursa, has put a 22-ton Boeing 747 up for sale for 2.5 million TL nearly ten years after purchasing it for 80,000 TL. The aircraft had been brought to the city in 2017 as part of a municipal aircraft café project, but was left idle after the project was canceled.
Çoğul, who has been active in the recycling sector since 1988, acquired the aircraft after the initiative launched during the tenure of former Bursa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Recep Altepe was abandoned. The jet had been transported from Istanbul and was planned to be converted into an aircraft café in Nilüfer district. However, following a change in the municipal administration, the project was canceled and the aircraft was transferred to the recycling sector.
✈️ 22-Ton Aircraft Transported in Seven Pieces
As it was not suitable for road transport in one piece, the fuselage was cut into seven sections in a way that would allow reassembly. It was then transported by trucks to Çoğul’s facility on İzmir Road in the İrfaniye neighborhood of Nilüfer district. Çoğul stated that at the time of purchase, scrap aluminum was priced between 3 and 3.5 TL per kilogram, and he paid approximately 80,000 TL for the aircraft.
He noted that under current market conditions, the aircraft’s value has reached around 2.5 million TL and described the cancellation of the café project as unfortunate.
🏗️ Café Project Halted Due to Land Issues
Çoğul explained that he had planned to convert the aircraft into a café-restaurant but was unable to proceed because he could not find a suitable 15–20 decare plot along the Uludağ road. The aircraft has remained at his facility for nearly a decade. He added that passersby and flight crews occasionally stop to see the aircraft and take photos.
🚜 Known as the “Scrap Dealer with a Plane”
Due to the Boeing 747, Çoğul said he has come to be known locally as the “scrap dealer with a plane.” Social media content creators also visit from time to time to film the aircraft. He stated that he has developed an emotional attachment to the jet and is now waiting for a potential buyer.
