As of December 4, China Eastern has begun operating flights from Shanghai to Buenos Aires with a stop in Auckland, officially launching the world’s longest one-stop scheduled passenger service. The flight covers 10,627 nautical miles (19,681 km) one way and takes around 29 hours, surpassing the previous record holder — the Nouméa–Paris CDG route with a stop in Bangkok.
The route has been planned for the Christmas period and the peak travel season in the Southern Hemisphere, operating twice a week. The flights utilize Boeing 777-300ER aircraft configured in three classes with 316 seats, including a first-class cabin. The airline has fifth-freedom rights between Auckland and Buenos Aires, marking the first time the sector has seen uninterrupted service since 2020.
These flights represent China Eastern’s first scheduled passenger services to South America.
