IndiGo & Turkish Airlines Agreement to End on August 31 ❌ Final Extension from Indian DGCA

India-based airline IndiGo will terminate its aircraft lease agreement with Turkish Airlines (THY) on August 31, 2025. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) of India rejected the airline’s request for a six-month extension, instead granting a final extension of only three months.

According to a report by NDTV, diplomatic tensions between the two countries have intensified, particularly due to Turkiye’s support for Pakistan. The agreement had faced criticism within Indian public opinion and from rival airline Air India. Air India argued that the partnership with Turkish Airlines posed both security and commercial balance concerns, especially following recent developments involving Celebi.

Since 2018, IndiGo has had a codeshare agreement with THY and, beginning in 2023, utilized two Turkish Airlines Boeing 777s for its flights to Istanbul. These aircraft were operated by THY crews, while IndiGo handled ground services and ticket sales.

With the agreement coming to an end, it is likely that IndiGo will continue its operations using its upcoming Airbus A321XLR aircraft and wide-body jets leased from Norse Atlantic.
