Two Aircraft Make Ground Contact During Pushback at Newark
Two passenger aircraft operated by Singapore Airlines and Spirit Airlines made ground contact at Newark Liberty International Airport in the U.S. state of New Jersey.
Singapore Airlines flight SQ21, operated by an Airbus A350-941, reportedly struck the rudder of a parked Airbus A321neo assigned to operate Spirit Airlines flight NK992 during pushback. The incident occurred in a non-ATC-controlled apron area.
Spirit Airlines stated that its aircraft was parked for de-icing at the time of the incident. All passengers were safely deplaned, and no injuries were reported.
The Spirit aircraft, which was scheduled to operate a flight to Orlando, has been withdrawn from service for technical inspection. The airline confirmed that alternative travel arrangements were provided for affected passengers.
Following technical checks, the Singapore Airlines aircraft was cleared to continue operations and later proceeded with its scheduled flight.
