$1B Gate Upgrade at Miami Intl.

$1 Billion Gate Investment at Miami International Airport

An official process has been launched for an approximately $1 billion terminal and gate modernization project at Miami International Airport in the U.S. state of Florida.

Under an agreement between Miami-Dade County officials and American Airlines, existing gate areas within Terminal D will be renovated and additional gates will be constructed.

The project includes plans for new waiting areas, expanded passenger lounges, additional taxiways, and apron reconfigurations. Construction is expected to begin in 2027 and be completed over the following years.

Officials state that the investment will enhance operational capacity and improve the overall passenger experience. The initiative is also aimed at strengthening American Airlines’ Miami hub operations while supporting further growth in the airport’s international connectivity network.

The majority of the funding will reportedly be provided by Miami-Dade County, with additional resources expected from federal and state-level funding programs. Upon completion, the project is anticipated to make a significant contribution to the airport’s long-term capacity planning.
