$1 Billion U.S. Program to Make Airport Experience Easier for Families

The Trump administration is focusing on one of the most commonly voiced problems in the aviation system: the challenges families face at airports. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy announced on December 8 a new $1 billion program aimed at making the process—from entering the terminal to boarding the aircraft—easier for families.

The new initiative encourages rethinking terminal designs so that families, especially those traveling with young children, can move more comfortably within airports. This includes creating dedicated security lanes for families, expanding play areas, establishing sensory rooms, and increasing the number of nursing spaces and mother-only rooms throughout terminals.

Officials say the program aims not only to provide a smoother travel day but also to create a healthier travel environment. Through partnerships with airports and the private sector, more nutritious food options will be offered. This includes revamping restaurant menus and increasing the number of vending machines stocked with healthy snacks.

Secretary Duffy described the campaign as part of the transition to a “new golden age of travel,” and Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. supported the message, emphasizing that healthy eating should be accessible to everyone—even on travel days.
